the rehabilitation room at amyotrophy department of Hebei yiling hospital . The man sit on electric-wheelchair
looks in fine fettle , organize music paper , eight music papers have
been set on the white board. Xue Ming is children¡¯s favorite
teacher, fifty-seven years old patient with muscular dystrophy for many years .
Some times , when he does not need to hospitalized ,he still love saty at ward

Although,
rehabilitation room not big, made by doctors and nurses painstakingly, new
training base for practice harmonica, as
muscular dystrophy patients¡¯ spirit position.¡±
Mostly patients are same as me have muscular dystrophy diseases , which can not
be cured so far. Paralysis and death so close to us , these are our destiny,
but , we must try and try hard ,to make our live more exciting and sparking!¡± when
he talks a gleam of hope in his eyes.
Why
practice harmonica? This should start with the respiratory training of the
patients with muscular dystrophy. Originally, in order to increase the vital
capacity of patients with muscular dystrophy, doctors asked patients to
practice blowing balloons. Even adults find it boring to blow balloons every day,
not to mention Duchenne muscular dystrophy children, who quickly lose patience
despite daily instructions from doctors. Xue Ming likes to play the harmonica.
Doctors say it's good to practice vital capacity. So Xue Ming came up with the
idea of teaching everyone to play the harmonica to exercise their vital
capacity. Most of the patients' families had poor financial conditions, so he
paid for the harmonica himself and sent it to the patients as gifts. In this
way, the harmonica training class begins!
"Most
children with muscular dystrophy drop out of school early and play games and
watch computers at home all day. Physical disability is not terrible, but
mental disability is terrible. Xue Ming said that it was also his original
intention to set up an orchestra. Li Ming, 15, was addicted to games. Since he
practiced the harmonica, his mood has improved and his personality has become
more outgoing. After discharging from hospital, he told Xue Ming that the
happiest thing every day was to go to the park with his mother, who worked out,
and he was sitting next to him in a wheelchair playing the harmonica.
"I
just want to make a spark to light the torches in the hearts of the patients
and make the short life more brilliant. The patients all said thank me, in
fact, our patients should thank the medical staff more, because they prolonged
the length and breadth of our lives. Speaking of all this, the smile on Xue Ming's face is real
and steady. Seeing the introverted children with pathological
changes and the desire to communicate with others, the 12-year-old Coco¡¯s
mother excitedly held the music score: "I was desperate to learn that the
child was ill. Didn't expect to meet brother Xue which could to teach children
to play harmonica, not only beneficial treatment, but also let children have
the mental strength to fight disease! Thank you, Brother Xue and the medical
staff of Yiling Hospital!
Xue
Ming, who looked very optimistic, admitted that he had a low ebb. In 1998, both
husband and wife were laid off and their son was in the first grade. Stress in
life made his illness progressing rapidly. "I haven't been out for ten
years, and I'm stuck in a dark room for illness. Until 2008, when I was paralyzed
and went to hospital, I suddenly found that I was not the only poor person in
the world. So many patients were living actively.
In
2008, his wife took him to Yiling Hospital for medical treatment. He changed
his mentality and actively cooperated with the treatment. His condition has
improved greatly. He can walk by supporting the wall. "I didn't sit in a
wheelchair until 2011, when I fell down and broke my patella. Throughout my
life, I am especially grateful to my daughter-in-law and children, and I have
never been abandoned. For so many years, my wife took care of me, gave me the
most down-to-earth warmth and affection, and supported me to do everything. My
son also gave me special support. The Orchestra held activities, and his cake
shop always brought a dessert table for free to help everyone. Speaking of his
family, Xue Ming is proud of them.
"Next,
I want to study how to keep sitting posture while playing harmonica. Many
children during practice sitting skew. Practice can bring children more space
to show. In fact, the patients with muscular dystrophy are a very vulnerable
group, both economic and mental pressure are very high. But as long as you
don't give up, there's more hope. My wish is to have less alienation and
guidance, more smiles and more love in society. Speaking of the future, Xue
Ming is full of expectations.
